The list is too large to go over in detail in this article. There’s a large list of new additions and upgrades to Ableton Live 11 – including workflow updates, and new tools. Has this changed with the big update to 11? Is this the point where I can finish the mix in the same place, without having to change DAWs? I’ve had the update to 11 for a few weeks now, and had the chance to really dive in and experience the new tools for myself. Typically, if I’m writing electronic-style music, I’ll start in Ableton, and I’ll head over to Logic to mix and finish the track. I consider Live as more of an instrument combined with DAW – somewhere that the process of recording is creatively applied to shape the music more directly and strongly. Native Instruments needs to get their priorities straight or they will loose their strong position in this competitive market. When I think of Ableton Live, it inhabits a different space in my mind to the more ‘standard’ DAWs for recording, arranging and mixing music. Still having nothing to offer a month (A month!) after Ableton's final release (we are not talking about beta or release candidate, but the very public release for crying out loud!) clearly shows they don't seem to have a clue where and how their products are used. If this is the case then SPEND THAT BLOODY TIME ON IT and save your reputation.ĭown prioritizing the most essential scripts needed by their user base is just pissing them all in the face, believing it is more important for us getting new fancy versions of their software as well as doing up sales and bundle campaigns than rather than making us be able to use the stuff we invested thousands of dollars upon. There is no excuse good enough for this blunder, neither a python 2 to 3 upgrade, API changes nor that doing this upgrade would take more than 5 minutes. Still having nothing to offer a month (A month!) after Ableton's final release (we are neither talking about beta nor release candidate, but the very public release for crying out loud!) clearly shows they don't seem to have a clue where and how their products are used. If their test group would have tried the most basic stuff they would have found these incompatibilities and been able to address it.ĭown prioritizing the most essential scripts needed by their user base is just pissing us all in the face, believing it is more important for us getting new fancy versions of their software as well as doing up sales and bundle campaigns than rather than making us be able to use the stuff we invested thousands of dollars upon i just as wrong as things can get. Native Instruments and Ableton has always gone hand in hand and there is no doubt in my mind NI have had pre releases of Ableton 11 long before we even got to hear of any release date. Wherever you look Native Instruments try to market their products to be the very best solution when wanting to get your hands away from your computer, this by creatively controlling everything with their MIDI consoles. Just did and managed to get a really good deal on one of their bundles. I'm using their stuff quite often but don't often visit their website.

Keep focussing on Live + Push and let Cycling '74 bring in subscriptions.īTW.

And Cycling '74 already provides a subscription model for their Max environment (also perpetual licenses).Ĭonsidering how many people dislike subscriptions (and considering that Ableton is completely independent and also often listening to their users) I can't help be convinced that they're not going to burn themselves here.

In case you don't know the name: Cycling '74 is the company behind the Max visual programming environment (which also got embedded into Live through "Max for Live"). Not sure if you're aware but Ableton owns the Cycling '74 company, they took over a few years ago. Because they already have a "hidden" subscription service. This is IMO a lot better than what Reason currently does: somewhat hiding the shop and putting all the spotlights on their Reason+ mess.Īs for Ableton. Only in their "product portal" (nice piece of software IMO) do they try and get you warmed up for the "iZotope club" When I check my account there I get tons of "loyalty offers" which allow me to buy (or upgrade) some of their stuff I own. See, at least iZotope kept the focus on what most of us want: perpetual licenses. Click to expand. To be honest I have more respect for the way iZotope handles this than, say, Reason Studios (and I really dislike writing that).
